Sir Dudley North was a merchant and economist, born in London in 1641. He became famous as a successful businessman, public servant and economist. In 1658, through his father’s instruction, he became an apprentice trader working across Russia and the Eastern Mediterranean. North travelled extensively in this role and spent much time in Constantinople, now Istanbul.
