by Ida Kar

Ida Kar's first solo exhibition Forty Artists from London and Paris opened at Gallery One on 12 October 1954. In the spring of that year, Kar took a three-month sabbatical from her theatrical photography to build up a notable portfolio of artists. The results of Kar's 'busy round of visits to studios and ateliers' in Paris were shown alongside fifteen of her portraits of British artists. The display depicted here includes her portraits of Le Corbusier, Stanley Spencer, Marie Laurencin, Man Ray and Jacob Epstein.
