A hugely popular Victorian author, Annie Brassey travelled with her husband Thomas aboard their luxury yacht. Their journey around the world in 1876-7 resulted in her book, The Voyage in the Sunbeam, our Home on the Ocean for Eleven Months (1878) which ran through many editions and was translated into five other languages. When in Britain the Brasseys lived with their children near Hastings, where he was an MP and she did good works. On her travels she collected ethnographic and natural history objects.... more
