Dublin-born O'Connor's controversial and forthright style was made evident in her debut WB Yeats-inspired album Troy (1987). Her single Nothing Compares 2 U (1990) catapulted her to international fame and was followed by the 6 million selling album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got (1990).
