Dyke, Catherine Opie T-Shirt
This black t-shirt accompanies the exhibition Catherine Opie: To Be Seen. Featuring the image Dyke, 1993 by Catherine Opie on the reverse. This portrait shows Opie's friend Steakhouse with a tattoo of the word Dyke on her back, a reclamation of the homophobic slur. The front of the t-shirt is printed with the exhibition title.
About the exhibition
Catherine Opie: To Be Seen showcases photographic portraits by the American artist Catherine Opie. It is the first major museum exhibition of her work in the UK. Opie’s work questions representations of home, intimacy and family, and on a national and international level explores politics, identity and power structures. Her photographs make visible queer communities, mentors and collaborators, children, surfers, high school footballers, political crowds and Opie herself, through self-portraiture.
