William Croft was an organist and composer of church music in the Baroque style. He was educated at the Chapel Royal under John Blow. In 1700 he became organist of St Anne's Church, Soho, a post he retained until 1712. He was appointed 'Master of the Children' at the Chapel Royal in 1707, and the following year he succeeded Blow as organist of Westminster Abbey.
