Bayne's father had been headmaster at Warrington Grammar School and a frequent visitor, with his son, to the Dodgson family home at Daresbury in Cheshire. Bayne and Dodgson met again at Christ Church and resumed their friendship. Dodgson's diary for 14 June 1888 reads: 'Dined with Bayne, to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of his Matriculation; the other guests were Liddon, Kitchin and Paget'.
