Rees was appointed to the Royal Household as consultant laryngologist in 1911 and to the Royal Family in 1915, and held the position for 21 years. He was also laryngologist to Queen Alexandra and the Queen of Norway, the Royal Opera House (he treated many famous opera singers, including Joan Sutherland, and invented the 'Melba Spray', named after Nellie Melba) and the Guildhall School of Music. He wrote numerous books, including Care of the Vocal Chords in Singers and Speakers, published in 1937.
