Chief Executive of the Medical Research Council. Borysiewicz's research is focused on viral immunology, infectious diseases, and vaccine development. He was knighted in 2001 for his research developing vaccines, including one to prevent the development of cervical cancer. Borysiewicz is a Fellow of Cardiff University, and an Honorary Fellow of Wolfson College, Cambridge. In recognition of his work, Borysiewicz was awarded the Royal Society of Medicine's Jephcott Medal in 2007.
