Sir Frederick Pollock was legal scholar best known for his History of English Law before Edward I, written with F.W. Maitland, and his lifelong correspondence with US Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes. Pollock trained in the law and was called to the Bar in 1871. He taught law at Oxford University from 1883 until 1903. Pollock was a founder and the first editor (1885-1919) of the Law Quarterly Review and edited the Law Reports (1895-1935).
