Charles Muss made enamel copies of several paintings in Sir Francis Baring's collection. This panel comes from a triple portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence showing Baring with his senior business partners John Baring and Charles Wall. Sir Francis is seen receiving correspondence from the Dutch merchants Hope & Co. He cups his ear to allude to his partial deafness.
