General. Paget served with distinction in the First World War and was promoted during the inter-war years. By April 1940 he was in command of 18th Division and in the ill-fated Norwegian campaign was praised for a skilful rearguard action. Dubbed 'the greatest trainer of British soldiers since Sir John Moore', as Commander-in-Chief, Home Forces (1941-3), he formed and prepared the 21st Army Group for the invasion of Normandy.
