Drake was particularly close to her aunt Beatrice Webb through their shared interest in women's working rights and their membership to the Fabian Society and Fabian Women's Group. Writing reports for the Women's Industrial Council between 1913 - 1915 on women's working conditions, Drake's inquiries into women working in the retail and service industries were published in the Women's Industrial News.
