Grenville-Temple entered Parliament as an MP in 1734. In 1754, his sister Hester married William Pitt, and from that time, Temple's career was linked with that of his brother-in-law. He was made First Lord of the Admiralty in 1756, and was appointed Lord Privy Seal the following year. He was disliked by King George II, who dismissed both him and Pitt from office in April 1757.
