Previously thought to be a sixteenth-century work, new research has shown that this painting dates from a much later period. Analysis of the paint used for the green background has shown that it contains a pigment called 'Prussian Blue' which was not commonly in use until the late eighteenth century. The style of painting suggests that it was produced by an eighteenth or nineteenth-century artist mimicking Tudor painting techniques.
