Won gold in tennis in the men's doubles at the 1900 Paris Olympics, partnered with his younger brother Laurie. He won gold in the mixed doubles and bronze in the men's singles at the same games. Doherty also won gold in the men's doubles at the 1908 London Olympics. Alongside his brother, Doherty won the men's doubles at Wimbledon eight times and the men's singles four times.
