A fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, Hogg was called to the Bar in 1932 and elected as a Conservative MP in 1938. On the outbreak of World War II he joined the Rifle Brigade and served in the Far East until he was wounded in 1941. After the war he combined his duties as an MP with his continued practice at the Bar.
