Queen Victoria NPG D10861

© National Portrait Gallery, London

after Sir Francis Leggatt Chantrey

This print was made a decade after Chantrey's bust of Queen Victoria was completed. The technique for making this print is called anaglyptography or 'medal engraving', and was developed in the 1820s using a ruling machine to ensure evenly-spaced lines. Usually employed to illustrate the appearance of sculpture in relief, for example coins and medals, the pattern of parallel lines in this print reflects the contours of the bust itself.

Card size: 125mm x 175mm

Images are printed in their original proportions, within a white border.
