Louisa Maria was the daughter of James II, King of England, who was forced to flee the country in 1689. Born in exile in 1692, she was named Louisa in honour of Louis XIV, who had provided a home for the family of James II in the palace of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Louisa died there in 1712, of smallpox.
