Born in Cumbria, Bragg read Modern History at Wadham College, Oxford University. He began his career in 1961 as a BBC trainee, three years later he was appointed editor of BBC2's first arts programme, New Release. Bragg is best-known for the arts programme The South Bank Show, which he edited and presented for thirty three years for LWT.
