While studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) Margaret Lockwood caught the attention of an agent who secured her a role in the film Lorna Doone (1934). Under contract to British Lion film company she made over a dozen films. In the 1930s she achieved critical success in Bank Holiday (1938) and in Alfred Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes (1938).
