From around 1904, Hardie developed a close and intimate relationship with Sylvia Pankhurst, one of the leading figures in the campaign to establish votes for women. With Pankhurst, Hardie became deeply involved in promoting the cause of women's suffrage. After his death in 1915, she described him in The Woman's Dreadnought as 'the greatest human being of our time'.
