This self-portrait with Kar's fellow Russian-born artist Emmanuel Mané-Katz was taken in his Paris studio. A more formal shot of Mané-Katz featured alongside portraits of Alberto Giacometti, Joan Miró and Jacob Epstein in Kar’s first solo exhibition, Forty Artists from London and Paris (1954).
