This print gives an impression of stability and order within Parliament. In reality this was a period of continual escalation in the conflict between the king and Parliament. The strength of feeling against Charles's policies in Church and State provoked increasingly forceful opposition from MPs. Early casualties of the conflict included Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford and the Archbishop William Laud.

Card size: 125mm x 175mm
