Corry entered Parliament as MP for Tyrone County, a family seat, in 1826 and represented it for almost fifty years until his death. He served as Comptroller of the Household in Robert Peel's first administration and Junior Lord of the Admiralty in Peel's second government. He was subsequently appointed secretary to the Admiralty in 1858. In 1867 Corry entered the Cabinet as First Lord of the Admiralty, an office he held until his death.
