George Carew was a soldier, administrator, and antiquary noted for his service in Ireland during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Having served in Ireland from 1574, in 1586 he was appointed master of the ordnance in Ireland. He went on to become lieutenant general of the ordnance in England in 1592.
