Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands became a royal residence in 1852 when Prince Albert purchased the estate for Queen Victoria. After Victoria's death, the royal family continued to visit Balmoral annually in the autumn and King Edward VII is shown there with the children of the Prince of Wales (later King George V).
