This photograph shows the Pethick-Lawrences sitting for their portrait by Laura Knight, with the unfinished portrait on the easel on the left showing the German actress, Grete Mosheim. The double portrait was subsequently purchased with funds raised by supporters of the suffrage movement, and given to the sitters in recognition of their services to the cause. The painting was also shown at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1937.
