Concert pianist, born in Tasmania; immensely popular for her concert tours in Britain both during the 1939-45 War and in the 1950s; noted for matching the colour of her dress to the composer of the concerto; her most played recording is of the background Rachmaninov No. 2 for the film Brief Encounter.
