Scorer of a record 60 league goals in a single First Division season leading Everton to the Championship in 1927/28. Scored 377 goals in 431 appearances for Everton after signing from Tranmere Rovers for £3,000 in 1925. Bill Dean's tanned skin and curly black hair earned him the nickname 'Dixie', after the black slaves of America's 'Dixieland' states.
