Rigg spent her early years in Jodhpur, India, and at the age of eight was sent to school in England. Upon leaving school she enrolled at RADA, then joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1959. She found success in theatre, film and television. In 1965 she captured the popular imagination as Emma Peel in the British television series The Avengers.
