Daniel Lambert was forced to retire from his role as keeper of Leicester gaol due to his weight. In 1806 he had a special carriage built to carry him to London, where he became a celebrity, exhibiting himself as a natural curiosity at 53 Piccadilly for a fee of a shilling.
