Considered to be the "Father of the Nation", Senanayake was the first Prime Minister of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). Born in the village of Botale, Senanayake was one of three brothers who were brought up in a devout Buddhist family, attending an Anglican school. He was leader of the Sri Lankan independence movement that led to the establishment independence in Sri Lanka.
