A fellow of Pembroke College, Cambridge, he published the Hilliard, 1753, satirising the quack doctor 'Sir' John Hill. His best known work Song to David was first published 1763. He was twice committed to a madhouse. He lived his last years and died in debt within the rules of King's Bench prison.
