Born as Shrimant Gajrabai Devi, Chimnabhai was the daughter of Shrimant Sardar Bajirao Amritrao Gahtge Sarjerao of Dewas (Senior). Maharani Chimnabai, also known as Chimnabai II, was the second wife of Sayajirao Gaekwad and was given the title of Maharani of Baroda. An intelligent and open-minded woman, she worked towards the advancement of education for girls and the abolishment of the purdah system and child marriage.
