Novelist Charlotte Yonge compiled two series of Biographies of Good Women (1862 and 1864). Devout and conservative, Yonge's diverse collection of international and historical women, including Sarah Trimmer and Hannah Moore, were united by their Christian faith. Yonge declared her 'full belief in the inferiority of women', but was nevertheless actively involved in furthering their education.
