Educated at Brasenose College, Oxford, Kent was ordained into the Roman Catholic ministry at Westminster in 1958. He was Catholic Chaplain to London University (1966-74). In 1980 he was elected General Secretary of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Founded in 1958 under the Presidency of Bertrand Russell, CND was pledged to the abandonment of British nuclear weapons.
