In 1949 Barbara Hepworth bought Trewyn Studio in St Ives and lived there from 1951. Her work was shown at the Venice Biennale in 1950 and the following year she was commissioned to make two works for the Festival of Britain: Contrapuntal Forms and Turning Forms were both sited in March 1951.
