Balletomane. Born and educated in London, Haskell read law at Cambridge, but did not finish his degree. He went briefly into business, and then became a reader for William Heinemann Ltd (1927-32). A joint-founder of the Comargo Society, he published Balletomania (1934) which was so successful that the neologism entered the language. Haskell had an entrée to Diaghilev's Ballets Russes when his friend Alicia Markova joined in 1925, and he worked on the Russian Ballet's American and Australian Tours (1933-4 and 1938-9).
