Received his artistic training from Genoese painter Alessandro Grimaldi and engraver Louis-Philippe Boitard. Worlidge's enthusiasm for the work of Rembrandt, which was shared by a number of influential artists in mid-eighteenth-century England, was the dominant force in his life and work. His imitations of Rembrandt in etching and dry point sold quickly and remained popular after his death.
