Naturalist and Antarctic explorer. First went to the Antarctic with Robert Scott in the Discovery (1900-04). On his return to England he prepared a monograph on birds and mammals observed during the expedition and contributed illustrations to Barrett-Hamilton's History of Mammals (1910).
