Ice-skater; Syers competed in the 1908 Olympics aged forty-five, and won a bronze medal for pairs skating with his wife and protégée, Madge. He adopted the artistic and athletic international skating technique, rather than the formal style favoured in England at the time. Madge Syers achieved further success at the 1908 competition, held at the Prince's Club in Knightsbridge, becoming the first woman to win an Olympic gold medal for ice-skating.
