Politician and activist. Ruddock gained national prominence while chair of CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament) (1981-5). In1981, Greenham Common Air Base became the target of an anti-nuclear protest that lasted for nineteen years. Ruddock has been the Labour MP for Lewisham, Deptford since 1987, and was the first full-time Minister for Women (1997-8). In July 2007 she was appointed Minister of Climate Change, Waste and Biodiversity.
