British novelist and travel writer Mantel was born in Derbyshire, and lived and worked in Botswana and Saudi Arabia. Her novels included Vacant Possession (1986) and A Place of Greater Safety (1992). She won the Man Booker prize twice for her historical novels, Wolf Hall (2009) and Bring Up the Bodies (2012), the first two instalments of the Thomas Cromwell trilogy. The final part, The Mirror & the Light, was published in 2020 to huge critical acclaim.
