This caricature went to press as votes were being counted in the by-election in which Faber stood against Lord Charles Beresford; by publication day, he had already been appointed Member of Parliament for York.
The previous year, 1899, Faber had inherited the ground-lease of Covent Garden Opera House, and promptly sold it to 'The Grand Opera Syndicate Ltd.'.
