Secretary of State for Northern Ireland from 1997 to 1999, where she played an important role in orchestrating the Good Friday Agreement, signed on 10 April 1998, effectively ending the thirty-year conflict in Northern Ireland known as The Troubles. Mo Mowlam was one of Tony Blair's most popular ministers with a direct and human approach to politics.
