Labouchere entered Parliament as a Whig MP in 1826. He served in a number of government offices under three prime ministers. In Earl Grey's ministry, he was Civil Lord of the Admiralty, Vice-President of the Board of Trade and Under-Secretary of State for War and the Colonies.
