Wood won the television talent show New Faces in 1974 and her great skill as a writer for stage and television was quickly recognised. Television appearances, and her comedy partnership with Julie Walters, led in 1982 to the Wood and Walters sketch show and Victoria Wood - As Seen On TV, which established her as a much-loved performer.
