Guitarist with The Who. His subsequent solo career has included the albums Another Scoop (1985), Face the Face (1986) and The Iron Man (1989). In 1985 Townshend joined the publishing house Faber and Faber as an editor. A collection of his short stories, Horse's Neck was published in 1985.
