American-born rock guitarist and singer. Hendrix was born into a poor neighbourhood in Seattle, Washington and taught himself to play the guitar. In 1966 he moved to Great Britain and formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience with Noel Redding and John 'Mitch' Mitchell. Immediate success came with their first single Hey Joe (1967) and their experimental first album Are You Experienced? (1967).
